Risk assessments
All private, public and governmental concerns relating to the project will be addressed by Norterminal both in the initial feasibility study and later in the planning and permitting part of the project. Issues such as but not limited to.
- Products present at the terminal and their potential effects on human/nature (e.g. poisonous/carcinogenic chemicals, volatile organic substances, explosive materials)
- Calamities and accident risks (nautical safety, ship collisions, tank ruptures, fires, explosions, domino effects with neighboring installations)
- External sources of risks (e.g. plane crash on terminal with nearby airport)
- Vulnerability to sabotage and terrorist attacks
- Oil spill risks and their effects
- Emissions to air (NOX, SOX, particulate matter) and their effect to habitats
- Water pollution (ballast water, drained water from tanks/caverns, storm water)
- Odor effects of the terminal operation (unloading ships, oil with odorous sulphur components = mercaptans)
- Visual effects
- Effects of road traffic
Norterminal shall comply to the strictest of regulations and apply proper management systems and procedures for emergency response planning, safety/security measures, adopting best available technology.
